The majority of the incidents covered in the NPR focused on multi-use bedside cot newborn sleepers that can be transformed into other modes, such as bassinets or play yards. Many commenters suggested that the CPSC add a second option to the proposed rule for multi-use bedside sleepers that would allow them to meet the minimum side height requirements for bassinets using a removable attachment. This attachment can be permanently attached or removed when the product is not being used as a bassinet for babies.

The CPSC is examining these comments and others received in response to the NPR on sleep at night. The Commission will take into consideration these comments when deciding on the final rule which is expected to be released in the month of November 2021.
