Augustine Eguavoen, the current caretaker coach of the Super Eagles, has outlined his conditions for taking on the role full time. The NFF technical director stated that he would require a long term contract, along with patience and support, to succeed in the position.

If I were to switch to the role permanently, it’s something I’d need to carefully consider, Eguavoen told Brila FM. The job demands time, and winning isn’t guaranteed every week or day. I would need a long term contract with specific clauses and patience from the federation.

Eguavoen highlighted that his previous stints as Super Eagles coach were all short-term, with none lasting more than six months. He pointed out that coaches like Clemens Westerhof and Gernot Rohr were given extended time to build their teams, something he has not had.

Currently tasked with qualifying Nigeria for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations AFCON, Eguavoen will also oversee the CHAN qualification campaign for the home based Eagles.
